Wednesday 06th December 2006: Welcome Meeting
We had to meet at the Clubhouse at 8:30am (which is just across the road from my apartment) for the International Recruitment Welcome session and spent the morning filling in forms, which was very boring. They provided us with a buffet breakfast of pastries and lots of fruit and I had a pastry, some grapes and a big cup of coffee to keep me awake, as I was feeling very jetlagged. During breakfast I was talking to the people sitting around me and I met Felicity as girl from Canada and Adrian a lad from Mexico and they were both very nice. After filling in a pile of paperwork we had our photos taken for our Commons ID, which they printed there and then and I looked horrible in it as I look so tried.
Once we had finished for the day at about 1300, a group of us (Kirsty, Celsey, Beth, Lyndsay, Zoe, Carla and I) headed to Wal-Mart to stock up on food and other items that we may need. We spend about four hours in there and I spent about $300 on food, hair straighteners, hair drier, blanket, toiletries, a lamp and cleaning bits and bots just to name a few. I had a lot of shopping bags as you can imagine and we had to get the coach back to The Commons, which was a bit of a nightmare because their was so many people with lots of shopping bags they all got mixed up but we managed to sort them all out. Luckily for me my apartment is just across the road from the bus stop.
At about 1900 Chris, Rob, Johnny, Beth, Kirsty, Celsey and I went to dinner at Sizzlers. To get to Sizzlers we walked through the Premium Outlet Mall (which is just across a big car park by The Commons) to catch the I-ride which is like a tram - it costs a dollar to go any distance and that dropped us right outside the restaurant. At Sizzlers you have to order a main meal and then to go with that there is an all you can eat buffet with salad, pasta, meat, vegetables and puddings. We all started eating from the buffet and by the time our main meals arrived a few of us could eat them, which was a waste. However we managed to save 10% off each meal as we picked up some tourist coupon books on the I-ride, saving money already that’s a good sign. Then after dinner we took the I-ride home. I had a fairley good day, but had a great evening with my new friends.
